Renowned for its outstanding red wines, Bilton Wines – situated on the verdant slopes of the Helderberg – is now set to wow its followers with the estate’s first white wine, the promising Bilton Sauvignon Blanc 2006.
With the challenge of producing Bilton’s first white wine, newly appointed winemaker Rudi de Wet together with consultant Giorgio Dalla Cia decided to move away from the typical Sauvignon Blanc style by adding a touch of Sémillon for extra complexity resulting in a wine that is easy on the palate yet rich with ample body and finesse.

“This Sauvignon Blanc with its brilliant green straw colour is alive with tropical fruit, melon and gooseberry flavours enriched with floral undertones. Barrel maturation adds further depth with aromas of butterscotch, vanilla and almonds. The complexity and opulence of dry ripe figs and white peaches on the palate is followed by a long lingering pleasing aftertaste,” is how De Wet describes this seductive wine.

The grapes for the Bilton Sauvignon Blanc 2006 were handpicked at optimal ripeness from vineyards situated high-up on the slopes of the Helderberg, offering the ideal conditions for slow ripening of the grapes and the development of an abundance of varietal flavour.

Presented in a stylish Georgian green bottle with a user friendly screw cap closure to protect the delicate flavours, this Sauvignon Blanc is delicious served with fish dishes such as oysters, tuna steaks and salmon cakes.

Bilton Sauvignon Blanc 2006 retails at a cellar price of approximately R38 per bottle.
